Overall a brief narrative about Pakistan history. Nothing new in the book mostly the stuff reported in news is consolidated. No inside story or analysis, good for those who wants to read about the major events of pakistan history in a single book.

lame book that tells less about the time of General in service and focuses more on his not so successful political career

One of the good books I have read on Pakistan political history. One important pros of this book and specifically of Lt. Gen. R Abdul Majeed Malik is that he wrote book with utmost honesty to his own belief and admitted mistakes boldly which I have not witnessed in history books in which author attempts to explain and justify all wrong doings so I must give a due credit to author for his open confession of mistakes and honesty.

Gen. Malik although started his military career during British Raj but he was no exception to the breed of fundamentalist military elite which later created Talibans. Like most of the ex Generals he could not get out of the narration of Islam and Pakistan its strongest fort ideology which is an absolute delusion. Most of the readers might find him very inconsistent in his self justification of being the righteous ones and in the same book prasising Zias take over of 77 in his letter to the dictator.

He won NA 43-60 Chakwal constituency five times consecutively which is a big milestone for ones political career without having any previous political affiliation but one thing I observed is that despite being elected five times even during his favorite PML(N) government, he did not carry out any significant change in his constituency or may be he could not find any of those worth mentioning in this book except the electrification of few remote towns and villages.

Overall a good read and very immersive one.
